Basilica of Annunciation

The Church is located in the center of the City of Nazareth. It stands over the site that was believed to be the site of Mary's house, where angel Gabriel appeared and announced to Mary that she is about to give birth of Jesus (Luke 1:30-31): "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS".

Four earlier Churches were built in the same location and archaeological excavations in this site revealed early Roman settlements.
